Aims of the course:The objective of the course is to gain proficiency in computer networking, basic level of networking knowledge (Computer Networks I) is expected. The course is oriented toward the network design, LAN security and implementation, routing and switching, wireless networking, virtualization, and IP telephony integration.
Course contents:
1.LAN design and implementation (allowance 16/16)
 
a.L2/L3 LAN design, redundancy, load balancing
b.IPv6
c.Multimedia transmission, IP telephony, and QoS
d.Wireless networks
e.Configuration and administration of Cisco/Juniper/MikroTik/Linux/Windows technologies.
f.Directory services, centralized IT management
g.Server and network virtualization, cloud computing
h.Software Defined Networks (SDN)

Specific competences:
 
-Student is able to describe key aspects of enterprise LAN design, including redundancy, load balancing, IPv6, VoIP, wireless and virtualization.
-Student is able to describe key aspects of enterprise network security.
-Student is able to design and deploy enterprise network infrastructure, including redundancy, load balancing, IPv6, VoIP and server virtualization.
-Student is able to design and implement enterprise network security.

Work placement:There is no compulsory work placement in the course unit.

Assessment methods:Final exam (written/oral and practical part). As an alternative the student project is possible. The written part is represented with a test containing LAN design, IPv6, network security, VoIP, WiFi and data center virtualization. Maximum number of points is 100, minimum required is 60, 90 min to complete the test, assessment A-F. The test is evaluated together with the student (oral part of the exam). The practical part of the exam proves the ability to solve laboratory tasks based on above mentioned fields of networking using real network devices.
