Aims of the course:To master basic statistical methods and their application in horticultural research and practice including the application of knowledge in data processing using statistical software.
Course contents:
1.Statistical estimation (allowance 2/2)
a.Definition of statistics and biometrics
b.Basic statistical terms (unit, population, characters)
c.Stages of statistical operations (determination, processing, analysis)
d.Statistical forms (series, tables, diagrams)

2.Description and analysis of one-dimensional and multidimensional populations (allowance 10/10)
a.Classification (including variation classification)
b.Mean values and measures of variation
c.Regression and correlation analysis
d.Association and contingency

3.Sampling methods (allowance 4/2)
a.Random (stochastic) variable and its distribution
b.The principle and types of sampling, random selection
c.Standard error and admissible error, range of sampling

4.Statistical estimation (allowance 2/4)
a.Point and interval estimations
b.Confidence intervals of basic characteristics
c.Interval and band of confidence of a regression function

5.Testing statistical hypotheses (allowance 8/10)
a.Procedures in testing and possible errors
b.Tests of variance homogeneity
c.t-test, paired t-test
d.Analysis of variance for the various arrangement of data
e.Analysis of covariance
f.Non-parametric tests

6.Modelling of production processes (allowance 2/0)
a.Dynamic models
b.Modelling using statistical methods

Learning outcomes and competences:

- ability to plan, implement and evaluate an experiment of limited scope
-Ability of critical evaluation, understandable and to the point argumentation during solving mathematical problems.
-Asquiring of mathematical knowledge required for mathematical models creation of real situations
-Development of abstract and exact thinking during the study of mathematical concepts and relations

Assessment methods:A credit obtained on the basis of worked out examples (min. 60%) and successful examination papers in course of training. Written and oral exam. For participation in oral exam, written exam must be fulfilled at least 60%. Total grade results from both parts of the exams.
