Aims of the course:Deepening knowledge of wood preservation and extension of issues of selected areas of this field. Course continue in knowledge obtained in course Wood Protection or Protection of Wood and Wooden Structures.
Course contents:
1.Introduction to wood preservation. (allowance 2/0)
2.Biotic factors degrading wood (allowance 4/0)
3.Issues of wood preservation in specific wooden constructions (allowance 6/0)
4.Nondestructive testing of wood (allowance 2/0)
5.Protection of wood-based composite materials (allowance 2/0)
6.Protection by wood modification (allowance 2/0)
7.Wood sterilization (allowance 2/0)
8.Wood protection against exotic pests (termites, marine borers) (allowance 2/0)
9.The influence of preservative chemicals on enviroment (allowance 2/0)
10.Defence of seminar work (allowance 4/0)

Learning outcomes and competences:
Generic competences:

Specific competences:
-Ability to determine damage of wood caused by biotic factors
-Knowledge of main methods used for the sterilization of wood attacked by pests
-Knowledge of other methods for increase in wood durability as alternative to chemical protection
-Orientation problems of environment protection
-Technical problems analysis and resolution

Assessment methods:Credit - 80% participation in seminars, 1 writen test during the course (maximum points is 20, for credit is necessary to have at least 12 points), defence of a seminar work in form of presentation. Credit is necessary to do an exam.
The course is finished with e-test - duration: 25 min, the number of questions: 30, minimal requirements for passing: 60 % of total mark
