Aims of the course:The aim of the course is detailed knowledge of roof truss construction of buildings with regard to their age, method of use, range, and the materials used.
Course contents:
1.Introduction, methods of searching for information on the typology of studied objects (literature, archives, chronicles, field research, historical and contemporary standards). (allowance 2/0)
2.Terminology of truss structures, basic typological clasificacion of historic structures, trussed roofs and framed roofs (allowance 2/0)
3.Archetype structure, common rafter roofs with collars and struts. (allowance 2/0)
4.Common rafter roofs with collars and scissor braces. (allowance 2/0)
5.Common rafter roofs with king struts, common rafter roofs with queen or crown post. (allowance 2/0)
6.Common rafter roofs with collars and principals (oblique post): early and developed form. (allowance 2/0)
7.Michael Ranek and his structures, framed roofs, combinated structures. (allowance 2/0)
8.The large historic construction, roofs with curved rafters, system of Ardant (allowance 2/0)
9.Current roof construction, typology, connecting material. (allowance 2/0)
10.Trusses: structural types, static effects of individual types of construction terminology. (allowance 2/0)
11.Arc construction of glued beams. (allowance 2/0)
12.Roofing agricultural and military objects, specific types of structures. (allowance 2/0)
13.Roofing of towers: the terminology of historical and contemporary design in the towers roof truss. (allowance 2/0)
14.Ceiling and other related structures: terminology, types of structures, connection with roof construction, continuing construction of floors, construction of half-timbered gables, etc. (allowance 2/0)

Assessment methods:Elaboration of project of wooden roof truss. Project is compulsory for final exam participation. End of course: written exam (lenght 1 h, max points 29, minimum 15).
