Aims of the course:Knowledge of modern instruments and methods, which are used in present forest mensuration. Students will learn to use modern technologies using in forest management planning and forest mensuration. During the semestr, students will learn to use technology Field Map, different kinds of hypsometers including ultrasound ones and they will know technology Arbotom for health status of tree assessment.
Course contents:
1.Introduction. Clasic methods of forest mensuration. (allowance 0/2)
a.Assessment of tree volume.
b.Assessment of forest stand volume.
c.Computation of sample plots parameters.

2.Measuring of forest quantities by modern instruments (allowance 0/8)
a.Measuring of heights by Vertex Laser.
b.Measuring of diameters by digital caliper Mantax Digitech.
c.Measuring of stand basal area by mirror relascope and telerelascope.

3.Forest mensuration by technology Field Map. (allowance 0/8)
a.Creating of project.
b.Determination of tree coordinates, point coordinates and sample plots.
c.Measuring of basic stand quantities.

4.Detection of tree health condition by nondestructive technologies Arbotom and Arboradix. (allowance 0/8)
a.Detection of stem health condition by technology Arbotom.
b.Detection of root system health condition by technology Arboradix.

5.Credits. (allowance 0/2)

Specific competences:
-Competence of health status of tree assessment by the means of nondestructive methods
-Competence to calculate the volume of a tree or forest stand directly in the field using software stored in the digital caliper.
-Knowledge of digital technologies connection to complex forest inventory
-Knowledge of methodology height measurements with ultrasound technology.
-Skills to use technology Field Map for measurement of different dendrometric values.
-The skill to use laser dendrometric instruments to measure dendrometric values of trees

Assessment methods:The subject is finished by demonstration of student's knowledge of practical modern forest mensuration. Credits will be done after successful test. Minimal count of points for successful test is 60 %.
