Aims of the course:To inform students about non-traditional technologies used in the production of the planting stock of trees and shrubs that have been up to now used in forestry only to a limited extent, about methods of the detection of planting stock quality and root system quality as well as about rudiments of horticultural and ornamental nursery management.
Course contents:
1.Hydroponic methods of growing plants (allowance 2/0)
2.Propagation of the planting stock of broadleaved trees from cuttings (allowance 2/0)
3.Raising of the planting stock of poplars and willows (allowance 2/0)
4.Cultivation and replanting of grown-up trees (allowance 2/0)
5.Raising of the planting stock by shortening the above-ground part (allowance 1/0)
6.Explant cultures (allowance 4/0)

b.Biotechnics and technologies of planting stock propagation

7.Planting stock quality (allowance 4/0)
 
a.Morphological and genetic quality of planting stock and methods of detection
b.Physiological quality of planting stock and methods of detection

b.Mycorrhiza, methods of assessment and significance in raising the planting stock

9.Basics of horticultural nursery management (allowance 2/0)

-Knowledge of methods for the ascertainment of root system duality in woody plants including the mycorrhiza
-Knowledge of the rudiments of horticultural and ornamental nursery practice
