Aims of the course:The course is composed of three parts: geology, soil science and practical steps in urban forestry using the knowledge from those two parts. Maintenance of soil productivity in municipalities, a broad perspective of a changes within soil properties under a stress by town surroundings and soil survey and classifications are reinfored together with the general knowledge of minerals, parent rocks, geological processes dynamics in Earth crust and regional geology of Czech republic. The practical aspects of composting, factors affecting tree growth, water management for salinity control/reclamation of salt-affected soils and changes in plant dead organic matter entering soil surface horizons due to the activities of soil biota in an urban environment are highlighted.

Assessment methods:Credit composed of four sub-sections, with emphasis on practically useful information for studying field. Compliance with the conditions while credit is subject to 80% percent success rate.
The test consists of a written and an oral parts. In both these parts the focus of 30% of geological knowledge and from 70% to pedological knowledge, as a result of the requirements of operating companies and city administrations in the country.
