Aims of the course:To gain knowledge of effective soil usage, vegetation and production factors in growing field crops.
To learn how to interconnect agronomic knowledge from the area of soil management with the knowledge of current legislation (nitrates regulations, vulnerable areas, LFA, GAEC) with respect to the quality of plant production. To become knowledgeable in practical skills connected with environment-friendly ways of soil usage. To be able to select crops suitable for growing under conditions of the Czech Republic with respect to rules of crop rotation including the most suitable sowing procedures. To acquire knowledge on crop growing technologies in compliance with the agro-ecological requirements.
Furthermore the student must obtain information on qualitative requirements for plant production.
Course contents:
1.Plant production within the economic system of crops growing, characteristics of the production background in the Czech Republic. (allowance 4/4)
2.Technology of soil processing in relation to soil conditions, anti-erosion agro-technical measures. (allowance 2/2)
3.Legislation and regulations in regard to plant production, rules of plant production in various regions and restrictions. (allowance 2/2)
4.Sowing procedures and crop rotation. (allowance 4/4)
5.Reproduction systems of field crops, seed and seedlings, growth and development of field crops, yield creation. (allowance 2/2)
6.Cereals, agro-biological characteristics, agro-ecological requirements, growing technologies, utilization of production. (allowance 4/4)
7.Pulses and oil crops, agro-biological characteristics, agro-ecological requirements, growing technologies, utilization of production. (allowance 4/4)
8.Root crops - classification, seed root crops, agro-biological characteristics, requirements growing technologies, utilization of production. (allowance 2/2)
9.Bulb root crops, technical crops - basic information, agro-biological characteristics, agro-ecological requirements, growing technologies, utilization of production. (allowance 2/2)

Assessment methods:The requirements for passing the course are at least 75% attendance in the seminars (excursion), elaboration of project and its defence, a successful completion of the final written test and oral exam. The test will be composed of questions on the topics covered in the lectures and seminars and the students will have 30 minutes to complete the test - the minimal requirement for passing is achieving 80% of the total points attainable in test and successful completion of three questions of the oral exam.
