Aims of the course:Students will get the basic information about cartography, mesurements and large scale mappig.
Course contents:
1.Shape and dimension of the Earth. Earth ellipsoid. (allowance 4/2)
a.General coordinate systems.
b.Spatial Coordinate Calculations. Cartesian Coordinates.
c.Coordinate systems used on maps in the Czech Rep.
d.Influence of Earth curvature.

2.Coordinate geometry. (allowance 4/2)
a.Computation of polar and orthogonal methods.

3.Categories of maps. (allowance 4/4)
a.Small scale maps. Large scale maps.
b.General refrence maps. Thematic maps.

4.Map projections. (allowance 4/6)
a.Cylinder, conic and plane projection.
b.Universal Transverse Mercator UTM.
c.UTM grid system.

5.Map digitizing. (allowance 4/6)
a.Manual digitizing. Automatic digitizing process.
b.Some basic statistical relations.
c.Digital catastral map.

6.Altimetry. (allowance 4/4)
b.Contour line.

Assessment methods:At least 80 % attendance at the exercises is required. The exam consists of a written and an oral part. The written part of the exam is focused on geodetic calculations; the calculation procedure and the accuracy of the result are evaluated. At least 60 % is required for the successful completion of the written part of the exam. The proportion of the written part of the exam is 33 %. At least 65 % of the total exam evaluation is required.
