Aims of the course:In this course the students will acquire knowledge concerning basic genetic rules of creation, preservation and use of genetically modified organisms (GMO) in agriculture, food industry and pharmaceutics. They will also learn about corresponding national and EU legislation.

Specific competences:
-Knowledge of basic terms of molecular biology and construction of genetically modified organisms
-Knowledge of genetically modified bacteria, fungi, plants and animals in agriculture and food technology at present time
-Knowledge of geographical distribution of utilization of genetically modified organisms
-Knowledge of legislation relating to genetically modified organisms in the Czech Republic and European Union

Assessment methods:The course is finished and credits are obtained with submission of a seminar work during the semester on the topic genetically modified organisms in agriculture. The examination is a written test (20 short questions in 30 min.). The minimum points which are necessary for to get to the oral part of the exam are 66% of maximum points.
