Specific arrangements for recognition of prior learning:There are no specific arrangements for recognition of prior learning. Profile of the programme:Our study program provides students with the knowledge and skills necessary for making informed decisions on selection, implementation, management and evaluation of genetic and other biotechnological innovations, mainly in the areas of livestock cultivation and breeding, production of quality and safe food, conservation of biodiversity of animal species, etc. This study program is suitable for students with a BA degree in biological sciences who have an interest in animal agriculture.
 
Key learning outcomes: The graduates have a complex view of the processes that take place in animal organisms (at the level of molecules, cells, tissues and whole organisms).
They acquire knowledge of basic genetic mechanisms at the level of molecules and cells and their utilisation in modern animal biotechnologies.
The graduates have also knowledge in the field of human genetics including the view of methods of modern genetic diagnostics.
The graduates acquire the abilities to apply the methods of molecular genetics and genomics, including the ability to analyse bioinformatical data.
They acquire knowledge of methods and results of mammal transgenesis and animal cloning, technologies of recombinant DNA.
They will acquire an ability to apply their knowledge in genetics, principles of quantitative traits analysis and molecular genetics in animal breeding.
The graduates have the ability to apply their knowledge in biotechnology of nutrition and feeding of animals and in environment protection.
The graduates are able to secure safety of foods based on alimentary risk analysis.
The knowledge acquired concerns also the management of research, development and innovation.
 
Occupational profile:The graduates usually work in private and state companies that deal with questions of food industry and agriculture and with the implementation of biotechnological methods. They can also work at professional and managerial positions, in biotechnological services, in breeding organisations and associations, in nutrition and manufacturing industry companies. They are also able to find jobs in companies that focus on food production using biotechnologies and on food quality prediction, and also in state administration, in science and research institutions and in education.
Graduation requirements:Min. 120 ECTS, state final exam, defence of the master's thesis.
Access to further studies:Successful graduates may proceed to doctoral study programme.
